Equality you say?

When you think of babies born everyday to grow up with only fragments and memories of missing family members, it just breaks your heart does it not?

Hi all,

I know I should be blogging about the festivities surrounding the recent Chinese New Year, trust me, mine was both happening and tiring. Unfortunately, amidst all the joy and revelry, recent news about the caning of women just makes you stop and wonder.

As a respecter of the law, I have no choice but to just bite my tongue at the presumed sternness of punishments imposed. The question I have though, is what happened to the men?

hum, i think that if the court is that busy every day that they have to make appointments like half year in advance...

that will probably mean around 3-5 people will be sentenced to something every day. in one court.

so i guess that the reporters just wanna pick the more "interesting" and "news generating" ones out of those cases to report on. such as the caning of the poor women.

i admit, it is really pretty harsh on the gal. if you think of it the other way, many men are getting caned every day, but we don't think of it being as heartbreaking as a women being caned.

gender equality?

I guess they decided to take it out on the weaker gender?

I guess men being beaten and punished isn't that much of a big deal. Btw, I hear that the caning for religious offences is sort of a mere gesture only - nothing like the caning for hard core criminals. Some teachers cane the students harder in school!!!

Conan_cat : Well, you do have a point there... then again its a pity these cases are generating too much bad publicity ...

LadyViral : Weak or not it was still a little too scary to contemplate the changes this might bring ....

STP : Oh ya, I did hear that the caning follows certain 'acceptable' standards...but then again you have to pause and think what message is getting out. Hitting women? It's just a little hard to swallow when you're trying to bring down the level of domestic violence etc. I mean, less learned people might take advantage of this and hit their wives and daughters on the pretext of some offence. Just a random thought of mine that prolly leans more towards feminism :P
